The big stage has now been set up at the Secret Solstice music festival that will take place in Laugardalur valley in Reykjavík this weekend, reports mbl.is. According to the organizers, it is the largest stage ever to be set up in Iceland.

The music festival, which is being held for the fourth time, starts this Thursday and runs through Sunday. Headliners set to take to the main stage include US recording artist Chaka Khan on Thursday, US rock band Foo Fighters on Friday, UK band The Prodigy on Saturday and US rapper Rick Ross as the closing act on Sunday, according to the festival schedule.

Local acts include Þórunn Antonía Magnúsdóttir, who doubles as one of the organizers of the festival, Hildur, Úlfur Úlfur, Amabadama, Emmsjé Gauti, GKR and Aron Can. Daði Freyr, who made a name for himself recently as runner-up in Iceland’s qualifying competition for Eurovision, is set to play on Gimli stage on Sunday night.

The layout of the festival site has changed considerably from last year, and the main entrance is now located at the southern end of neighboring Laugardalsvöllur national stadium. Sveinn Rún Einarsson, one of the organizers of the festival, says this makes a big difference and was one of the things that enabled them to set up the largest stage ever in Iceland.

The overall site itself has been expanded by 5,000 m2 (53,800 sq ft), and the organizers are expecting up to 20,000 guests during the festival. There were 8,500 overseas guests last year and Sveinn stated that he was expecting a similar number this year.
